2027 MIF/P Taegan Lermann, #2 in the 2027 Line Drive Hot 100, decided to join the Line Drive Softball blogging crew.
Sept. 1 was the first day 2027 players were officially allowed to make contact with college coaches/recruiters.
Lermann, a standout infielder for Hotshots National-Nelson, a PGF All-American and a Team USA U-15 team member, blogged about her Sept. 1st experience.
MY SEPT. 1 RECRUITING EXPERIENCE
Sept. 1 marked a big milestone for 2027 recruits like me — our first chance to talk to college coaches about the future. It felt like a big step that 10 years ago I didn’t know I would have to take. I started Sunday with a nice dinner with all my family as we waited for the clock to strike midnight. As it got closer, my nerves started to build, until finally it was here.
HOW COACHES REACHED OUT
I got a little bit of everything. A few struck at midnight with a quick hello, but most coaches texted me first. After that, the rest reached out to set up a time to talk. I even received one email, but the majority stuck to texts and calls. I’m glad for the mix, as it gave me a chance to get a feel for each program’s approach.
WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR IN A COLLEGE?
When I think about where I want to spend my next few years, it’s more than just academics or athletics. I’m looking for a place that feels like home — where the softball team becomes a family away from family. I’m ready for that first big step in life and I want to be with people who’ll support me not just on the field, but off too.
Having that family dynamic is important to me. After all, I’m going to be living on my own for the first time and I want to know I have a support system no matter what.
COLLEGE VISITS AND CAMPS
I’m definitely excited to visit some colleges in person and get a feel for the campuses. I have my first scheduled visit this coming weekend and I’m looking forward to seeing each school up close. As for camps, I’m going to hold off for now, but it’s something I’ll keep in mind later on.
The recruiting process is definitely a lot, but I’m excited to see where it all leads. For now, I’m taking things slow and enjoying the process. Can’t wait to see where my fellow 2027 teammates and friends end up! Happy September 1st!
