Event News: Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass Takes Game 1 Against Unity-Johnson at AFCS 14U Tier 1 National Championship Series (July 30, 2025)

AFCS is being held July 24-31 in Kokomo, IN (All rankings are Line Drive Hot 50 Club Nationals Rankings):

In 14U Tier 1 Elite 8:

Unity-Johnson 5, #6 Corona Angels-Tyson 3: 2028 SS Kylie Holden went 3 for 4 with a doubles, two runs and an RBI and 2028 RHP Miley McMullan, #14 in the 2028 Line Drive Hot 100, allowed seven hits and three runs with two strikeouts to lead Unity-Johnson into the national championship series.

#2 Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass 7, #17 Oklahoma Athletics National 2010-Madden 2: 2028 P Kendall Putnal pitched three innings of relief while allowing three hits, one run and striking out four and 2029 CF Courtney Latronico went 4 for 4 with three runs, 2028 SS Michaela Landers, #4 in the 2028 Line Drive Hot 100, went 3 for 3 with a triple, a run and three RBIs and 2028 3B Ava Capek went 1 for 2 with a homer and three RBIs to propel the Bombers into the national championship series.

In the National Championship Series:

#2 Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass 5, Unity-Johnson 2: The Bombers, which is in the national championship series for the third time in the past four years and looking for its third national title (2022 & 2024), knocked off the Unity, which was in its first national championship series, in Game 1 in Kokomo, IN.

“Big win in Game 1 against a great opponent,” Bombers coach Kristi Malpass said. “I’m proud of how our team came out and executed. Tomorrow’s going to take even more. Unity is a great team, well-coached and extremely competitive. We’ll need to stay locked in, make adjustments and bring the same intensity pitch by pitch.”

2028 OF Lena Pullin drew a bases-loaded walk and 2029 OF/1B Reese Madsen had an RBI single to give the Bombers a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

2028 RF Emma Huffman singled up the middle to drive in two runs as the Unity tied the Bombers, 2-2, in the top of the 3rd inning.

2028 MIF Landry Mutscher doubled and scored on 2028 C/OF Meah Martinez’s singled to give the Bombers a 3-2 advantage.

2028 MIF Michaela Landers, #4 in the 2028 Line Drive Hot 100, gave the Bombers some insurance with a two-run triple in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday at 7 a.m. PT and Game 3, if necessary, is at 9:15 a.m. PT. Both games will be streamed live on AGL.
