Event News: Week 2 of PGF Nationals Kicks Off with Coaches Dinner & Opening Ceremonies Unlike Any “Party” In Softball (July 29, 2025)

No one in the travel softball world knows how to throw a party like PGF does.

Last week, for example, the All-American players in the Senior game were treated to a four-hour yacht tour off the Newport Beach, Calif. coast.

Check out these photos of the event courtesy of Josh Johnson, head of the VA Unity club program:

To kick off Week 2 of PGF Nationals—featuring more than 300 teams in the 14U, 12U and 10U age divisions—a coaches’ dinner was held on Sunday evening in Costa Mesa, Calif.

The event, which also included a pool play draw for each age division after the dinner, was emceed by PGF Nationals championship games announcer Darren Sutton and his fellow broadcaster Amanda Freed, the former All-American at UCLA.

Then on Monday evening in Huntington Beach, Calif., the Opening Ceremonies were held and an estimated 4,500 players, coaches and family members attended.

They got to see the always-impressive TAPUA Tahitian Polynesian Dancers as well as hear from softball legend Jennie Finch and enjoy country music via Tayler Holder.

Perhaps the most poignant aspect of the Opening Ceremonies, however, was hearing from PGF President Dan Hay and family members close to the John Wayne Institute, which PGF has partnered with and raised over one million dollars in the past 12 years for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation to help fight breast cancer.

A party can be a lot of fun—and there’s been much of that over the last week, for sure—but it’s refreshing to see how these PGF “parties” can do so much good for the community, too.
