Line Drive Softball’s National Club Player of the Week (July 9, 2025)

*** Emily Yoon, a 2028 pitcher and first baseman for the BSC Bengals 14U team coached by Roseann Briggs, just had a week she’ll be telling her grandkids about someday.

Emily Yoon on the mound last week.

At Boulder IDT—one of the top club tournaments of the summer—the young pitcher went 7-0 with a save and in 30 innings had 41 K’s, just seven walks given up, an ERA of .467 and an opponents’ batting average of just .162.

Emily helped the Bengals go 11-0 during the event to win the 14U division and her notable performances included tossing a shutout in the quarterfinals, a win against a strong Bandits team in the semis and then a masterpiece in the championship game: a seven inning, four-hit 1-0 shutout against the OC Batbusters – Stith/AG team to bring home the trophy.

Interestingly, seven of the players on the current BSC Bengals team including Emily were together two years ago when the squad won Sparkler—also in Colorado—and then went on to capture the PGF Nationals title later in that summer of 2023.

The dominant pitcher holds the IDT championship trophy

Emily has also won two PGF Nationals on 10U and 12U teams previously.

The talented pitcher has been hot all summer, with a 12-1 record and two saves as of last weekend with 58 innings pitched, 88 strikeouts, nine walks, a -.24 ERA, a 0.67 WHIP and a batting average against of just .146.

So what did the pitcher think of her championship-winning run?

“I didn’t pitch as well as I wanted to in Colorado last year so my goal this year was to just pitch better,” she said.

“I was able to do that this year by trusting my spin more and working on my strength and endurance. Also, the team played really great defense and was on fire with the bats so that helped out a lot.”

As for Emily’s performance in Colorado, Coach Briggs knew the incoming sophomore would rise to the challenge.

“Emily stepped into the circle with the confidence of a seasoned ace,” she explains. “Pitching both the semifinal and final games, she wanted the ball in her hand. Emily doesn’t shy away from the pressure—she welcomes it and is calm, focused, and fierce.”

The promising talent was also ranked No. 16 in the Line Drive 2028 HOT 100 that was published in May.

Runner-Up Line Drive Softball National Club Players of the Week

*** Layla Ogden, a 2026 infielder for the Louisville Lady Slugger 16U – Huecker/Norwood team based out of Louisville Ky., was an unstoppable power hitter in the 2025 Scenic City Classic held last month in Dalton, Ga.

The Western Kentucky recruit helped her team go 9-0 to win the Scenic City title as she smacked 11 home runs and had 23 RBIs during the week.

What was surprising, you might say, is that it wasn’t surprising.

As a junior at South Warren High in Bowling Green, Ky., Layla tied the all-time Kentucky high school home runs record with 24 while leading the state in both home runs and RBIs (75).

Ava DeNormandie waits for the pitch.

*** Ava DeNormandie from St. John, Ind. is another young and promising talent who was amazing with the bat last week.

The 2028 third baseman and pitcher for the NWI Sox Fastpitch 14U team coached by Brandon Verkler went 11-for-13 for an .846 batting average at the Firecracker tourney in Indianapolis last week.

She drove in seven runs and, of her 11 hits five were singles, three were doubles and three were triples.

For the summer season, the sophomore at Lake Central (Ind.) High is hitting .533 with a .617 on-base percentage and has 15 RBIs. Of her 24 hits, nine have been doubles with the three triples that were accomplished this week.

Brooklyn connects for a hit.

*** Another incoming sophomore that made noise last week was Brooklyn Wesley, a pitcher and utility player for the Athletic Mercado Academy 16U – Zito team.

In the Colorado Supplemental Pool, she went to the plate 21 times and hit .467 with a .500 on-base percentage. Of her 10 hits, two were doubles and another pair were triples.

Brooklyn scored eight runs, drove in five more and didn’t strikeout once all week.

*** Outfielder Kai Minor, ranked No. 2 in the Line Drive 2025 HOT 100 and a Univ. of Oklahoma signee, continues to show why she’s one of the best players pre-college in the country.

Kai hit a home run and went 3-for-3 in the Boulder IDT 18U championship win.

Head Coach Mike Stith praised his talented player for her outstanding work on and off the field.

“Kai Minor’s senior leadership and consistent performance throughout the three-week grind (was exceptional),” he said of the team spending two weeks in Oklahoma and one in Colorado over the last month.

*** At the Triple Crown Colorado 4th of July tournament, 2026 middle infielder Bailey Goldberg helped spark the Athletics 18U – Mercado-Smith team to the championship title at the 19U National Power Pool.

On championship Sunday, Bailey hit four home runs to help the A’s win the title.

From Henderson, Nev., Bailey is committed to the Univ. of Oregon. She’s also a star in the classroom with a .379 GPA.

In the championship win, a 12-9 shootout with Georgia Impact Premier – Taylor, the shortstop put her team on the board with a two-run homer in the first inning.

In the championship game story published by Triple Crown, Bailey was quoted praising her team’s efforts.

“It was a grind, it was a battle. The lineup’s been coming together this week. We’ve been turning it around. We needed a big offensive day here, especially in Colorado,” said Goldberg.

Bailey was selected to play in the PGF All-American Games next month in Southern California.
