It’s appropriate that as we gear up to profile the 2027 class—the next one coming up in our Line Drive Softball HOT 100 series—we begin meeting up with some of the best in that age group.
Last weekend at the Top Gun Invitational held in Kansas City, we had a chance to interview two standouts from the grad class on the Firecrackers 16U – Vines team that is coached by dad Anthony Vines and his daughter Brooke Vines, who played college softball at Tennessee and Loyola Marymount.
Teagan Breaux is a right-handed pitcher and Isabella Gonzalez a third baseman and shortstop for the Southern California-based team.
We asked the duo what it’s like to compete for the accomplished Vines family.
“It’s stressful, but a good stressful,” Teagan says. “She (Brooke) pushes us… she really pushes us (and) breaks us down to build us up.”
Isabella adds: “They push you to your limit and push you for your best.”
Also, note that younger daughter Anna Vines, who played at UCLA, coaches the Firecrackers 18U – Vines team… it must be true what they say: the family that plays (and coaches) together, stays together!
