Select Fastpitch-Wiegliman/Dragon held on for a 6-5 victory over Iowa Premier National-Shannon/Paz in the 16U championship game of the Top Gun Elite 20 Spring Invitational on Sunday at Blue Valley Recreation Center in Overland Park, KS.

2027 O/MIF Kate Sandvick and 2027 C/1B Avery Sciezinski homered or Iowa Premier.
“Our team had a decent start to the tournament going 2-1-1 in pool play,” Jones said. “We were hitting well, but we knew we could do better. We stepped on the field for our first bracket game and we were hitting great straight out of the gate. Emma Dragon and Kya Yoakum started our day with home runs and it only kept going.
“Fast forward to the championship game, Iowa Premier had some great hits and Coach Wigs (Rich Wiegliman) told me I needed to make adjustments. I made them and started seeing a lot of groundballs and strikeouts. The true domination came from our offense after being down 4-1 and making an incredible comeback to be up 6-4 in the final inning.
“Overall, this tournament meant a lot to us. It was the first time playing with this group of girls (with half of our team in high school season) and we not only played for the win, we played for each other. Every girl put their heart into every game and it was more than worth it.”
