We get asked just about every day what we’re looking for in a player nomination form for the Line Drive HOT 100 rankings.

To answer that question, we’re going to take an actual one sent in by Coach Teo Caymol, the head coach of the Impact – Caymol team for a talented 2029 pitcher from Florida named Madison McCormick

Below is the submission and, ID’d in RED, and what makes this nomination an excellent one as a good example of those providing info (i.e. travel ball coach, school coach, trainer(s)… anyone who works with the student-athlete.

Note: parents can send information but not a nomination:

1. All the basic info above “Division age” is strong, clear and on point.
2. The field here is for is a range suggestion (removed here for privacy). Ranges should be like 1-10, 11-21, 51-60, 91-100, 151-160, etc.
3. Thorough stats including hitting and position specific (in this case, pitching). Also, nice that measurements such as pitch speeds are listed.
4. Excellent in that it covers in-school honors as well as sport specific ones.
5. Thorough scouting report in that it gives the strengths of the player including pitches thrown as well as what she’s done in the past, an evaluation of where she is now and what is expected to happen in the future.
6. We’d like this category to be more human interest-related and share insights on the player off the field, be it academics, interesting family ties, other sports played, etc.
7. This one is often overlooking but photos are critical, both a head shot and at least one action picture! More the better so 3-5 is totally appropriate! Nice to have a good “horizontal” (wider than taller) photo which is used on the front page.

Scouting report (what makes the player a Line Drive Softball Hot 100 candidate?: Madison had a stellar summer and fall season (playing mostly up in 16s and 18s) establishing herself as one of the top hurlers in the 2029 class. McCormick is a big game pitcher that locates exceptionally well and has recently added an elite rise ball to supplement her devastating dropball. Madison played up at times on Teo Caymol‘s 18u national team but will be one of the anchors on Coach Caymol‘s top 14U team both as a pitcher and hitter. (5)
