What a satisfying weekend it had to be for coaches Ramsey Harkness and Josh Fisher who oversee a talent-laden Tennessee Mojo 18U team.

The two successful club coaches assembled a star-studded squad last Fall and the level of talent was apparent over the weekend as a 2025 standout and three juniors committed to high D1 programs:

Coach Fisher shared his thoughts earlier today about what has led to the success of players like that quartet that just finalized their college futures on the field:

“Coach Ramsey and I have what we think is a unique situation,” he told Line Drive Softball earlier today, “in that we do not have children on the team, family members, etc. in the dugout, as players or coaches. This allows us to perform unbiased evaluations of our players and creates a level of trust between our kids and coaches.”

Being honest, sometimes brutally so, has positively helped the Mojo players and families in their recruiting journeys, Fisher believes.

“Our approach is to be 110 percent honest with our players, when it comes to the recruiting process in general,” he explains.

“A lot of times, those conversations can be difficult, but players and parents appreciate an honest evaluation. We most definitely urge our players to be patient and to trust us as their coaches in that we are going to work tirelessly until the player finds a college home where each is comfortable and happy.”

Loyalty from both sides is also important.

“Jumping around on a travel team just to try and get recruited or committed is not the route to take, in our opinion,” the Mojo coach adds.

“We don’t make promises, in terms of recruiting, to our players; however, we do give our word that we will work as hard or harder for our players than any other travel team. We strongly encourage our players to keep an open mind and pursue the opportunities which  are pursuing them, i.e. ‘show the love to who is showing the love.’”

Harkness acknowledges that they are proud and humbled to be part of the rewarding process that sees athletes take their game to the next level, literally. 

“We celebrate these young ladies’ achievements in their ultimate goal of playing the sport they love while receiving a top-notch education,” he begins.

“We know that there are many people involved in each of their journeys and we feel truly blessed to share that journey with them. Both Fish and I continue in our efforts to surround ourselves with likeminded people and every time we post a roster it shows!”

Coach Fisher concludes with a stat that makes his Mojo team’s accomplishment of four verbal commits in one weekend even more impressive.

“It’s extremely critical for players and parents—especially the parents!—to know, only 1-3 percent of active travel ball players ultimately attend—what in their minds are—their dream school.”

“Ultimately, we try to treat each of our players equally and fairly and are as happy for one as we are for all the others. The recruiting process is ultimately why kids today are playing travel ball, but the entire recruiting process is full of ups and downs and quite honestly, at times, can be challenging.”

“It is meant to be a time which the players enjoy and should be a culmination of the hard work and dedication it has taken to get to this point.”

“We fully understand these challenges, but Ramsey and I feel that—with the aforementioned hard work, honesty and direct communication—that we provide an excellent bridge between the college coaches and players to assist them in achieving their goals and dreams.”
