International News: Team USA Opens Super Round with 2-0 Shutout Over Japan to Remain Undefeated at the 2024 WBSC World Cup Finals (July 19, 2024)

The world-ranked No. 1 U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) continued to prove dominant at the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Finals after a thrilling 2-0 victory over Japan Thursday on Day 4 of the tournament.

Highlighting the U.S. offense was Dejah Mulipola and Jessie Warren who were the only U.S. batters to record an RBI in the matchup – while Mulipola (2-for-3) also recorded the only multi-hit performance for the Eagles.

In true USA vs Japan fashion, the matchup proved to be a defensive showdown with neither side able to break the silence through four innings until a hit-by-pitch to Jocelyn Alo set the stage for Warren to send an RBI triple to right field that plated one in the top of the fifth.

Mulipola quickly followed suit and tacked on an insurance run with a base hit down the left field line to strengthen the lead, 2-0.

Megan Faraimo went the distance in the circle for the Eagles, recording eight strikeouts through seven innings while limiting the Japanese offense to three hits to seal the shutout win – marking the third-straight shutout for Team USA.

The Eagles close out Super Round today, July 19, against the Netherlands at 5:30 p.m. CET (10:30 a.m. CT). The top two teams at the conclusion of Super Round will go head-to-head in the gold medal matchup slated for Saturday, July 20.
