Event Recap: 18U & 16U Champs Crowned at Scenic City Summer Top 25 (June 23, 2024)

Scenic City Summer Top 25 was held from June 20-23 in Chattanooga, TN/Dalton/Rocky Face, GA (All rankings Line Drive Hot 50 Club National Rankings):

Tampa Mustangs-Seymour scored seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the 3rd inning and went on to an 8-3 victory over #47 Team NC-Hinde in the 18U final of Scenic City Summer Top 25 on Sunday at Warner Park.

“It’s been a fun couple of days,” Mustangs coach Chad Oliva said. “It was definitely a total team effort. We were down two pitchers (injuries). We only had two of our four, but we managed it all week. It was an awesome format (two games in one day) and the format of the tournament really helped. It was a complete team effort.”

Boise State-bound C Hailey Vassalotti drove in three runs, Clemson-committed 2025 1B/3B Sarah Breaux went 2 for 3, Jacksonville-committed 2025 CF Jaida Thomas stole two bases and the Mustangs played error-free defense and turned two double plays.

Tampa Mustangs-Seymour defeated #19 Lady Dukes Gold-Torres, 5-3, and Louisville Lady Sluggers-Huecker/Murphy, 3-2, to reach the final.

“Over the years, we’ve played well and had some high finishes,” Olivia said. “But I feel it was a great tournament. We fought hard. We’re only playing two tournaments this summer. All of them (the players) are signed or committed. When they play hard, they can play well.”

James Madison-bound RHP Madalyn Johnson (1.90 ERA, 27 Ks) and Troy-bound RHP Mya Holt (2.90 ERA, 20 Ks) handled the pitching duties for the Mustangs.
