Addison Deroche capped off her high school freshman by winning Maine Gatorade Player of the Year and striking out 21 in the state championship win.

Amazing Accomplishment: Freshman Pitcher Addison Deroche Wins Maine State Title Saturday with 21 Strikeout Performance! (June 17, 2024)

On Friday at the Top Gun Nationals in Shawnee Hills, Kan., I ran into Addison and her mother, Bridget, as they were getting ready to leave for the airport after playing for her Mojo – Lewis 16U team in the event’s first two days….  Click HERE to read that entire day’s Top Gun recap.

Here’s what was written about the frosh phenom at the end of Friday’s action at Top Gun:

Addison Deroche left Top Gun today (Friday, June 15, 2024) to head back to play for the Maine Div. I State Softball Championship on Saturday.

A cool story involving the Maine Gatorade State Player of the YearAddison DeRoche who won the prestigious award last week despite being just a Freshman.

We noticed the pitcher/infielder was on her way out along with her mother, Bridget, and won’t be at the weekend’s Top Gun Invitational games for a very good reason: Addison will compete for her Cheverus (Portland, Maine) High team in the Div. I state finals on Saturday!

Last year, I ranked the athlete in the Top 10 in the Class of 2027 and her stats this year were impressive: a 0.12 ERA heading into the playoffs with three no-hitters and an equally strong batting average of .553.

This sports story of the freshman’ triumphant season would make a great Hollywood movie… except it might be too unbelievable!

However, it really DID happen as Addison closed off her freshman high school softball campaign for her Stags prep team with three spectacular accomplishments:

  1. She was named the Maine Gatorade State Player of the Year earlier this month:

  1. She led her Cheverus Stags team to the Maine Class A Softball state title on Saturday with a 3-1 victory

Addison and her mother had flown to Kansas City to be with her club team just after regionals that went 10 innings but Cheverus High won thanks in large part to the freshman pitcher’s 23 strikeouts.

Last Saturday, mom and daughter got home at 1:30 am and the title game was less than 12 hours later…

… so how did she do?

  1. She struck out 21 batters in the championship win!

That’s right, she ended up getting 21 outs–all by strikeouts– to help her team capture the Maine title trophy.

A story that Hollywood wouldn’t buy because it’d seem too hokey… except it’s true and all happened in the last couple of weeks!

Congrats to Addison, her family and her Stags high school team… and we look forward to several years more of enjoying her accomplishments at the high school and club levels… and beyond!
